2015 - 365 Project. Day 97. April 7

365 Project. Day 97, April 7: It would be irresponsible of me not to commemorate National Beer Day in my 365 project. The first beer I ever drank was a Miller High Life. It calls itself "the champagne of beers". Hmm. Maybe. If the champagne you're talking about is Cold Duck. I have much to say about beer. The longer I've been drinking it, the more refined my preferences have become. I'm definitely a hoppy, IPA kind of girl. I briefly considered brewing my own, but I hear from literally EVERYONE who does it that this hobby is best suited either to chemists or to people who just really like beer and don't care if every batch is a little different. I know what I like, and if I couldn't faithfully replicate it every time, I think I'd just be frustrated. So this evening, I am whiling away my time while my daughter's quartet rehearses, sipping a Ritual IPA (on sale to honor the holiday) and playing on my phone, which the bartender helpfully plugged in for me before the battery died. The most absurd part of this evening was asking for a glass of water. The bartender told me, "California just passed a law, so I'm legally not allowed to ask you if you want a refill for this water." Really? Go home, Jerry Brown. You're drunk.
